Summer 2021

I am a rising High School Senior at Hong Kong International School in Hong Kong. I am currently applying to universities across the east coast and United Kingdom for their respective Cellular and Developmental Biology bachelor programs. I interned with PulmonIx in the summer of 2021. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, playing tennis, hiking, and traveling the world.

During my internship, I was exposed to the world of clinical trials – the hidden secret behind all FDA approved drugs on humans. Beyond earning my Biomedical Research – Basic/Refresher, COI, GCP, and IPS certificats, I was also able to work directly with trained medical experts as a shadow in the LeBauer Pulmonary Care clinic. I organised budget sheets and the PulmonIx website along with creating a survey to understand clinical research associates’ site evaluation methodology. Most notably, I led research into establishing an infusion treatment centre and presented this to the company for their own use. My experience at PulmonIx has been truly outstanding, and it has exposed me to an entirely different side of the medical field.

Summer 2021

I was an intern for Pulmonix during the summer of 2021. I currently am a student at USC Columbia, majoring in Public Health with ambitions to either go pre-med or into sports medicine. My hobbies are playing basketball and tennis, working out, hanging out with friends, traveling to new places, reading books, volunteering, and trying new foods. Preceding to interning, I had a little bit of knowledge on clinical trials, but with mentoring and great guidance from the staff, I learned about clinical trials and each and every step that goes through it. I was able to shadow clinical research nurses and doctors, and grasped all the hard work and specific steps which they have to follow in order to receive successful results. During my time at Pulmonix, I helped with an infusion project which expanded my knowledge in the medical field, and led me to become even more driven in medicine. My time with Pulmonix was amazing, and I am really grateful for this marvelous learning opportunity.

June 2020 – June 2021

I am from Randleman, North Carolina, and have completed my junior year at Campbell University, majoring in general science with a focus in clinical research. I am pursuing the dual degree program at Campbell to receive both a master’s in clinical research and a doctorate of pharmacy degree. The master’s program is entirely online for a year, and I will begin pharmacy school in August 2021. Following my first year of pharmacy school, I will graduate with my bachelor’s degree. When I decided to obtain a master’s degree, I knew this year would be the perfect time to pursue an internship. While serving as a research assistant, I am excited to gain hands-on experience in the field at the site level to enhance my future career as a pharmacist. In addition, I hope to further my knowledge of regulatory processes, protocols, standard operating procedures, monitoring, and data management.

Being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at 17 sparked my interest in clinical research as I had to try several medications before I found a treatment that worked best for me. The medication was fairly new to the market at the time and I began to research the pathway for how drugs are approved by the FDA. I found myself wanting to know more about the processes and decided to combine my dream job of becoming a pharmacist with my interest in clinical research. Clinical trials are an essential part of FDA approval, and I am excited to begin my pursuit in the field.

Summer 2019

I am a freshman at Duke University, where I plan to pursue a pre-med track with a major in either Spanish or Art History. I interned with PulmonIx in the summer of 2019. I love spending time with my family, reading, traveling, hiking, running, practicing yoga, and being outdoors.

As a type 1 diabetic, I’ve always had an interest in medicine, and especially research. Interning at PulmonIx was an amazing experience that gave me a comprehensive introduction to the world of clinical trials. During my internship, I helped organize SOPs and data logs, researched spirometry and ECG machines for the company to buy as well as a new, secure storage unit for investigational drugs, and helped create a psychometric test for incoming employees to assess the character traits of ability, social skills, and drive. From Dr. Ramaswamy and the incredibly devoted staff of PulmonIx I learned about the nuances of clinical trials, which reinforced my passion for medicine and research. I’m so thankful to them for this amazing experience!

March-June 2019

I was an intern for PulmonIx from March 2019 to June 2019.

I am from High Point, NC and went to UNC Chapel Hill for undergrad. I am now at Wake Forest School of Medicine pursuing a doctorate in medicine. I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking, kayaking, playing board games, and being involved with my local church.

Working at PulmonIx taught me a great deal. I learned what it was like to work in clinical research, how to better interact in a professional environment, and improved my organizational and analytical skills. Specifically, I gained a better understanding of clinical research trials and HIPAA through my work in those areas. Generally, my time with PulmonIx showed me how incredibly important clinical research is to patients and our community.

Summer 2018

I was a 2018 summer intern right before my Senior year of college. I have recently graduated and completed a Public Health bachelors degree from Elon University. During undergrad, my interests revolved heavily around ending pervasive issues such as sexual violence and relationship abuse on college campuses. Through my coursework and research, I found a new path toward clinical trials and improving health outcomes. By gaining experience in multiple areas of data collection and analysis, I hope to use this knowledge one day toward filling the gaps so often found in sexual violence research studies, ultimately improving health program outcomes and resources for survivors. Aside from work, I enjoy hobbies such as painting, hiking, and listening to true crime podcasts!

During my internship, I was immersed into the “unknown world” of clinical trials! In addition to gaining ICH/GCP Certifications during my time, I was able to shadow staff who directly worked with research subjects while simultaneously helping to compile data and regulatory documents for these studies. On the side, I spent time re-organizing SOPs, maintenance log sheets, and even re-arranging the office space to improve physical safeguards. During my time, I also became the main contact for technical support and improving PulmonIx’s company image through business cards and an updated website. This was a once-in-a-lifetime oppurtunity for me to gain hands-on experience within clinical research that added so much professional and technical advances for my beginning healthcare career. In addition, this internship helped me land my now current job within a larger CRO and I can’t thank Dr. Ramaswamy enough for his guidance and support during it all!

Summer 2017

I was an intern for Pulmonix during the Summer of 2017. I recently earned my bachelor’s degree in 2018 from The University of Tennessee at Knoxville. My hobbies include hiking, hanging out with friends, trying new local restaurants, and traveling across the country. I am currently attending East Tennessee State University, to get a Master’s in Public Health with a focus on Healthcare Administration and Policy. Prior to interning, I did not have much knowledge on clinical trials, but, with assistance from the great staff, I learned all about these trials and what it takes to complete one. I was able to shadow clinical research nurses who obtained patient consent for the studies and the specific steps that must be followed to enroll participants. During my time at Pulmonix, I helped with a HIPAA project which led me to become interested in healthcare policies. I truly enjoyed my time with Pulmonix and consider it a valuable learning experience.
